Cubby’s Convenience Stores, based-in Omaha, recently acquired the Corner Mart in Laurel, NE.
Since opening in 1999, the Corner Mart served as a fixture in the community, brothers Greg and Steve Urwiler opened the store in its current location with brother-in-law Leland Carson. Laurel, NE is approximately 45 miles from Sioux City, IA, Yankton, SD, and Norfolk, NE, and the move to the current location in 1999 made The Corner Mart an ideal stop for truckers.
“Laurel is a close community, with only 1000 residents, so you really get to know everyone,” said Greg Urwiler. “We feel really good about turning the reigns over to Cubby’s because they have a good reputation, and they are also family-owned.”
Much of the staff from The Corner Mart is still with the store, including store manager Dennis, and the kitchen staff. In addition to previous offerings, Cubby’s in Laurel now offers Chester’s Chicken and soon Godfathers Pizza Express.
“Cubby’s has brought new technology, ideas and food offerings, so it is exciting to see that changes,” said Urwiler. “They are a great fit for Laurel.”
